Technician in Dietetics

2021 - 2022

About

This post-compulsory program trains students to prepare diets, control the quality of people’s food, analyse eating behaviours and schedule and apply educational activities to improve people’s eating habits.

The duration is 2,000 hours (1,590 in class and 410 in internships) divided in two academic years.

Access

People having some of the following requirements can access directly to the program:

  • Have the high school diploma or equivalent
  • Have a Vocational Education and Training diploma (VET) or a Certificate of Higher Education (HNC)
  • Professional or technical specialist
  • Have any Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
  • Having passed the university entrance test for over 25 years

People not having any of the aforementioned requirements must pass an entrance test. In order to apply, it is necessary be aged 19 years old or turn 19 during the year in which the test will take place.

Objectives

The Technician in Dietetics training is based on the following competences:

  • The elaboration and supervision of adapted diets for persons and groups according to their nutritional needs.
  • The elaboration and supervision of adapted diets for patients and groups according to their specific pathologies.
  • The control and supervision of the qualitative composition of foods, to determine its hygienic and dietetic quality.
  • The supervision of preservation, handling and transformation of foods.
  • The promotion of people’s and the community health through activities that promote good eating habits.
  • Analyse persons and groups dietary needs.
  • Identify physiological, pathological and socio-cultural characteristics for dietary specifications and interpret anthropometric and clinical data of the prescription and medical record.
  • Detect preferences, possibilities and other information having an impact on the diet monitoring and relate all the information obtained through baseline dietary and nutritional parameters to elaborate and adapt diets and follow up.
  • Interpret the data of the prescription, the dietary record and foods and nutritional tables, calculate the necessary energy requirements and determine the type and quantity of foods that can be eaten, its distribution and the way of cooking, as well as schedule the dietary monitoring in order to respond to the dietary needs of persons or groups.
  • Control the processes of preservation, handling and transformation of foods, identify its physicochemical and organoleptic characteristics, and relate the systems and conditions of preservation, packaging, storage, preparation and cooking with the critical points and control procedures.
  • Interpret the applicable regulations in each case, detect alterations in processes and products and propose corrective measures to verify the hygienic and dietary quality of food for human consumption.

M12: Kitchens workshop (45 hours)
M13: Sports nutrition (45 hours)
M14: Psychology in dietetics (60 hours)

Do you want to continue studying?

The qualification of technical specialist obtained at the end of this program gives access to any Bachelor’s Degree. People who have obtained a Certificate of Higher Education (HNC) can validate ECTS university credits.

Online pre-registration

Given the current exceptional circumstances in which pre-registrations cannot be carried out in person, Centro Garbí has launched pre-registrations online.

Provisional Calendar: (possibility that the Department of Education modifies the dates due to the crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic).

Pre-registrations: from March 25th to June 5th
Registration: July 15th-21st

We remind you that your reservation will only be made once the payment of 250.00 euros has been validated, which must be made to the account number you will find specified in the last section of the pre-registration form. It is very important that at the time of making the transfer you state the name and surname of the student and the name of the educational cycle to which he/she is pre-registering.

The confirmation of your place, will be communicated by email after the date of completion of the pre-registration period (June 5th), based on the date of pre-registration and payment and in accordance with the criteria set out above. The exception to this is for students who are in the third preference for admission to higher grade, who will receive confirmation of their place in the last week of July.
