Higher Vocational Training Cycle: Advanced Technician in Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory

The Programme

The Higher Vocational Training Cycle in Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory trains professionals qualified to carry out analytical procedures in the field of health. Students acquire knowledge in biology, microbiology, haematology, biochemistry and genetics, and learn to use advanced equipment and techniques to collect, process and analyse biological samples.

This programme combines a solid scientific foundation with intensive practical laboratory training, preparing students to join healthcare, research or quality control teams in clinical and biomedical environments.

The general competence of the qualification is to perform analytical studies on biological samples, interpret results and ensure the quality of the analytical process by applying standardised work protocols and safety, risk prevention and environmental protection regulations. The technician is trained to contribute to the diagnosis, prevention and monitoring of diseases in coordination with healthcare professionals.

In addition to our regular collaborations with hospitals and laboratories, our centre has two highly significant partnership agreements, offering students a training experience with exceptional added value:

An internationally renowned biotechnology company, leader in research, development and production of advanced health solutions. The agreement with HIPRA enables students to undertake internships in a cutting-edge scientific innovation environment equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and advanced technological processes.

One of the country’s leading pharmaceutical companies, with a strong track record in pharmaceutical research, development and quality control. This partnership allows students to train in a highly regulated and demanding environment, acquiring professional competences in a laboratory of the highest prestige.

These two agreements represent a distinctive added value of our programme, giving students direct access to centres of scientific and industrial excellence.

The total duration is 2,000 hours (1,485 in the training centre and 515 in the workplace), distributed over two academic years.

Access Requirements

Direct access is granted to candidates who meet any of the following criteria:

  • Hold a Bachillerato (upper secondary education) diploma
  • Hold a Vocational Education and Training Technician or Advanced Technician qualification
  • Have passed the second year of any experimental Bachillerato programm
  • Have completed the University Orientation Course (COU) or equivalent pre-university studies
  • Hold a Bachillerato diploma obtained through the former Unified and Polyvalent Bachillerato (BUP)
  • Hold a university degree or equivalent qualification
  • Have passed the university entrance examination for candidates aged 25 or over

Applicants who do not meet any of the above requirements must pass an entrance exam. Candidates must be at least 19 years old or turn 19 within the calendar year in which the exam takes place.

Objectives

Training within the Higher Vocational Training Cycle in Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory equips students to:

  • Apply standardised work protocols to perform analytical procedures with precision, safety and scientific rigour.
  • Collect, prepare and preserve biological samples ensuring traceability, quality and integrity throughout the analytical process.
  • Carry out analytical determinations of varying complexity in the fields of haematology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology and genetics.
  • Interpret analytical results and assess their reliability, identifying potential errors, anomalies or technical incidents.
  • Apply quality assurance systems in all phases of the analytical process, complying with current regulations.
  • Use laboratory equipment and technology efficiently, performing basic maintenance and ensuring proper operation.
  • Implement occupational risk prevention and environmental protection measures when handling samples, reagents and equipment.
  • Record and manage clinical and analytical data using information systems, maintaining confidentiality and information security.
  • Collaborate in multidisciplinary teams by providing relevant technical information for the diagnosis, prevention and monitoring of diseases.
  • Develop responsible professional attitudes, integrating continuous improvement, scientific ethics and ongoing professional development.

Internships (Workplace Training Hours)

Internships take place in healthcare environments and specialised laboratories equipped with the resources necessary to carry out real analytical activities. Students join professional teams and participate in biomedical research and clinical diagnostic processes.

In addition to regular collaborations with hospitals and laboratories, our centre has two highly relevant agreements offering students a training experience of outstanding added value:

An internationally recognised biotechnology company specialising in cutting-edge health solutions. The partnership with HIPRA allows students to train in a high-level scientific innovation environment with advanced technology and state-of-the-art laboratory processes.

A leading national pharmaceutical company with extensive experience in research, development and pharmaceutical quality control. This agreement enables students to work in a highly regulated and demanding professional setting, acquiring valuable competences in a top-tier laboratory.

These two collaborations are a distinguishing feature of our programme, providing direct access to facilities of scientific and industrial excellence.
